Title - To Seattle by Trolley
Description
To Seattle by Trolley: The Story of the Seattle-Everett Interurban and the "Trolley That Went To Sea" Published by Pacific Fast Mail - Copyright 1988 ISBN: 0-915713-16-0 ----- Description ----- To Seattle by Trolley by Warren W. Wing is a lively history of Pacific Northwest Traction, a company once part of Stone & Websters plan for an "interurban empire" stretching from the Canadian border to Portland, Oregon. By the 1920's improved highways and the automobile dashed S&W's hopes, leaving two rail "divisions" split by an uncompleted section - a "missing link" between the cities of Mount Vernon and Everett in Washington State. The Northern Division, nicknamed "the trolley that went to sea" - in reference to the two-mile trestle built over the waters of Puget Sound - lasted until 1928, while its southern counterpart between Seattle and Everett made its last run in early 1939. To Seattle by Trolley contains 160 pages, over 225 rare photos, new end sheet maps by John Signor and complete equipment rosters. Revised second Printing. Retail MSRP $39.50
